Jumbo Coturnix Quail
Quails are great for smaller farms, backyards, and city dwellers. They are ideal for eggs and meat. Quails are quick maturing, begin to lay eggs around 6 to 8 weeks, and lay daily. All of our breeding hens weigh 330-450 grams, a true dual purpose bird. Quails are easy to raise, making them a perfect starter bird or for the more advanced.
Quail chick availability
Usually we have extra chicks hatch every week. Please message ANY FRIDAY evening or SATURDAY morning to enquire about EXTRA’S even if it says sold out. we cannot count chicks before they hatch and the “available” quantity is an estimate

Due to an incredibly busy opening to the season adult female birds won’t be available until mid summer. This section will be updated regularly and when there are some ready or a date when they will be ready it will be posted here

If you are interested in a larger group of adults, I will grow them for you. Please select a hatch day from the “chick availability” chart and email me with that date and age you require the birds.

Coturnix Quail Basics
Brooding
Young quail chicks require heat until fully feathered. Typically they are kept in a “brooder”, which is basically a box with some sort of heat supply (heat plate/bulb). The heat source can be gradually raised until they no longer need it, this depends on the season. In the warmer months 3-4 weeks is sufficient. Water and feed is also required. A high protein (26%-30%) feed is best for young quail. You may find that it’s best to grind it up for the first week or so pending the size of feed you have. Clean water available at all times is also necessary. There are quail specific waterers in the market, but a regular chicken waterer will work also. If using a chicken water feeder, place marbles/stones inside so that the small quail chicks can’t go inside and drown. You’ll need a substrate in the bottom of your brooder, paper towel or puppy pee pads are best for the first week, wood shavings are ideal after. They are inexpensive and readily available. DO NOT use newspaper, it’s slippery and it will cause leg problems. After your birds are feathered they can be moved from the brooder to their permanent cage or aviary.
